Project Details:
The preferred candidate will work with the MDE Security and Privacy Officer to help establish,
monitor, and report security and privacy compliance as established by MDE policy and
procedures.
Job Description:
This position will require a qualified Security Analyst to assist in the following tasks:
Ensure that student data contained in the State Department of Education
student data system is handled in full compliance with FERPA, and other state
and federal data privacy and security laws
Work with local district IT staff with district security incidents such as
ransomware and DDOS attacks
Establish, maintain, and operate a department-wide Security and Privacy
Incident Response Program to ensure that incidents are properly reported,
investigated, and mitigated, as appropriate
Provide training, guidance, technical assistance, and outreach to build a culture
of privacy protection, data security, and data practice transparency to students,
parents, and the public among all state and local governmental education
entities that collect, maintain, use, or share student data
Work with the Infrastructure team, Applications team, Database team and
other sub-units of OTSS to recommend and implement new security measures,
strengthening the overall security posture of the agency
Possess exceptional communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills
Monitor and manage an ongoing staff security training program and provide
security/privacy guidance to LEAs
Address any security and privacy audit findings
Prepare and exercise agency breach response and disaster recovery plans; and
Coordinate security/privacy efforts with the agency’s Data Governance Officer.
Leverage all available tools to develop and publish vulnerability reports
Identify, analyze, and interpret threat actors and malicious activity in client
environments
Required Degree:
Bachelor’s Degree
Required Skills/Experience (minimum 5 years):
Experience preparing administrative summary reports on privacy and security
Experience with developing response and mitigation plans for privacy violation incidents, ransomware
attacks and other security/privacy incidents
Experience leading a data security and privacy training program
Experience writing security and privacy policies and procedures
Preference given to candidates with the below skills/experience:
Experience in education data systems and environments is a plus
ISC2/Comptia certifications in the areas of Cyber Security/Data Privacy or closely related work
