I recently read an article on the 10 Critical Skills for Today’s IT Workforce, posted on the Creating IT Futures website: http://www.creatingitfutures.org/inspiring-success/blog/creating-it-futures/2017/03/21/10-critical-skills-for-today-s-it-workforce
One of the things that struck me was how different the list is than it would have been ten years ago. One of the skills noted is the ability to understand cloud technology. Today so many organizations rely on the cloud for their business technology infrastructure that it is a top ten critical skill.
Other skills required today are the ability to integrate technologies and use different programming platforms. The days of being an expert in one area are long gone. Integration and understanding how programming and infrastructure work together is key for success today.
It is clear from this list that information technology is constantly evolving and workers need to continuously update their skills to be effective. The more diverse the skill set the better equipped workers are to tackle new projects.
